Beijing Mayor Liu Qi met Monday with Charlene Barshefsky, former trade representative of the United States.
Liu called Barshefsky an old friend of the Chinese people, and said she had made great contributions to the development of Sino-US economic relations.
He noted that the first decade of the new century is an important period for Beijing since it is to host the 2008 Olympic Games.
Beijing will incorporate the preparations for the Games into its overall urban development, said Liu, adding that the city would like to hear various views and suggestions in a bid to make the Games a best one in history.
Barshefsky said Beijing is carrying out a great undertaking, hoping to strengthen contacts with the city and provide consultancy in economy, trade and law.
