Tai Chi Enthusiasts Participate in Extravaganza
A total of 10,425 Tai Chi enthusiasts gathered together in
Hong Kong
Sunday in an attempt to make a Guinness World Record.
They performed the ancient Chinese sport at the same time for 30 minutes at the Happy Valley Recreation Ground.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong government Donald Tsang highlighted Tai Chi as a sport with long history and the quintessence of Chinese culture.
"To keep practicing Tai Chi assiduously can build up a good physique as well as relieve the pressure of life. This is the reason why the government has all along been actively promoting the sport by organizing training classes and competitions on Tai Chi for public participation," Tsang said.
Apart from attempting to create a world record of the largest Tai Chi demonstration, the event also aimed at providing an opportunity for the Tai Chi enthusiasts to exchange knowledge and skills.
A Tai Chi Forum to exchange views on Tai Chi exercises was held after the Tai Chi demonstration.
