Twelve Foreign Experts Working in Beijing Given Awards

Liu Qi, mayor of Beijing, presented the Great Wall Friendship Award to 12 foreign experts working in Beijing Friday.

Liu Qi, mayor of Beijing, presented the Great Wall Friendship Award to 12 foreign experts working in Beijing Friday.

Peisert Christoph, a German expert working in the Beijing International Cooperation Project Management Office, said after receiving an award that he is happy with his life and work in Beijing, and is confident in Beijing's future.

Other award winners include foreign experts from America, Norway and Japan. They serve in the industrial, agricultural, communications, environmental protection and educational sectors.

hang Mao, deputy mayor of Beijing, said that bringing in foreign intellectuals is one of the most important parts of China's opening-up policy. Beijing would like more skilled foreigners, overseas Chinese and international friends to become involved in China's modernisation and its opening-up and reform drive.

The annual awards were first issued in 1999.
