Multinationals Welcome to Develop in Beijing: Mayor

Liu Qi, mayor of Beijing, saidhere Friday that multinational corporations are welcome to establish their Asia regional headquarters in the Chinese capital.

Liu Qi, mayor of Beijing, saidhere Friday that multinational corporations are welcome to establish their Asia regional headquarters in the Chinese capital.

During his meeting with Jorgen Centerman, president and CEO of ABB Ltd of Switzerland, Liu said that multinational corporations are also welcome to set up research and development centers and develop value-added manufacturing industries in Beijing.

More and more renowned multinational corporations have come to Beijing to seek business opportunities following China's accessionto the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Beijing's win to host the 2008 Olympic Games, Liu said.

He said the municipal government of Beijing will provide, in accordance with international norms, quality services for multinational corporations to develop businesses in the city. These companies are welcome to participate in the construction of infrastructure facilities designated for the 2008 Olympic Games, added Liu.

Centerman congratulated China on its accession to the WTO and Beijing on its successful bid to host Olympic Games in 2008.

Centerman said that ABB is willing to further its presence in Beijing, partake in the infrastructure construction for the 2008 Olympiad and provide technical support for the Olympic Games.

The Swiss-Swedish industrial and technology group ABB, established in 1988, now has more than 200,000 employees and over 1,000 sub-companies in more than 140 countries and regions worldwide.
