The construction of China's largest shopping and entertainment centre --- Beijing Mall --- was launched Thursday in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone.

The mall will cover 36.6 hectares with total construction area of 600,000 square metres. It is located in southeastern Beijing, 3.5 kilometres away from the Fourth-Ring Road and near the Beijing-Tianjin Expressway.

Entertaining facilities, including cinemas, skiing courts, water gardens, man-made beaches, will be another highlight of the mall.

Other public facilities like libraries, folk museums, post office, and hospital will be constructed together.

Hotels and restaurants catering for various customers will be built, covering about 200,000 square metres.

A parking lot covering over 200,000 square metres will be built in the mall, capable for 8000 cars.

Beijing Dadi Investment Group is the investor of the project.

Xu Ming, president of Dadi Group, said that the mall will choose four retailers from more than ten multinationals including Wal-Mart, Carrefour, Printemps, to open centres in the mall and establish 500 small-sized stores. Prices of goods in the mall will be 20 per cent lower than those in downtown stores.
