Senior CPC Official Meets Philippine Guests

In a meeting with a delegation of the Philippine ruling party headed by Jose Ma A. Rufino, the national executive director of the party, Wei Jianxing said China and the Philippines, two neighboring countries, have witnessed long-standing friendship and expanded exchanges and cooperation in all areas since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 26 years ago.

Wei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Thursday with a delegation of the Philippine ruling party headed by Jose Ma A. Rufino, the national executive director of the party.

Wei, who is also a member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat, told the delegation of Lakas-National Union of Christian Democrats-United Muslim Democrats of the Philippines, that China and the Philippines, two neighboring countries, have witnessed long-standing friendship and expanded exchanges and cooperation in all areas since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 26 years ago.

He said that Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, during her recent China tour, exchanged views with Chinese President Jiang Zemin on further developing bilateral ties. The important consensus reached by the two top leaders has invigorated the growth of bilateral ties between the two countries, he said.

On Party-to-Party relations, Wei said the visit marked the beginning of exchanges between the two ruling parties of the two countries in the new century. He believed that the visit will enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two sides and contribute to the healthy growth of good-neighborly and cooperative ties between the two countries.

Rufino, who is also the presidential advisor for political affairs, said the delegation has witnessed the achievements made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC during the reform and opening-up drive.

He said the President Arroyo's visit opened up new prospects for bilateral ties. He hoped that his party could make its due contribution to the deepening of state-to-state relations.
