Director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Mike Moore said Wednesday in Hong Kong that he was confident that a new round of global trade talks would be concluded within three years.
Moore, who was here for the 14th General Meeting of Pacific Economic Cooperation Council, told a press conference he hoped thevenue for the talks would be decided by the end of December.
"Before Christmas I will redeploy our divisions inside the WTO," he said. He hoped they can in this year decide on who would be the next chairman and can put in place the new trade management mechanism and time-frames by January 28.
Moore, who has chaired the WTO for two years, will end his tenure next September and his successor is former Thai deputy prime minister Supachai Panitchpakdi.
