2.6m College Students Enrolled This Year, More Next Year

Sources from the Ministry of Education November 26 told a total of 2.6 million college students including 3,408 recommended having been enrolled by Chinese colleges and universities this year.

And an enlarged student body totaling 2.73 million enrollees, 10 percent growth than planned this year will be recruited by Chinese colleges and universities coming year,.

2.6m college students enrolled this year

Sources from the Ministry of Education November 26 told a total of 2.6 million college students including 3,408 recommended having been enrolled by Chinese colleges and universities this year.

  • 4.535 million students signed up


  • Statistics show that some 4.535 million students had signed up for college entrance exam this year, 650,000 more or 16.7 percent increase over last year. As a result of this year's withdrawal on age limitation, altogether 16,265 examinees, 0.36 percent of national, at an age over 25, had taken part in the exam.

  • 1.31 million been enrolled online


  • SOf the 2.6 million college enrollees, some 1.31 million were reported having been enrolled online by over 1,400 colleges and universities including 1,004 on long-distance enrolling. As things stand with China's college enrollment, exams had been well conducted under a "3+X" formula introduced in colleges and universities of the country's 18 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

    2.73 million to be enrolled next year

    Also known from the Education Ministry' sources and the 2002 national college enrollment conference concluded November 26 at Dongguan in south China's Guangdong Province, an enlarged student body totaling 2.73 million enrollees, 10 percent growth than planned this year will be recruited by Chinese colleges and universities coming year.

  • SThe Ministerial authorities also say that different quotas will be arranged among Chinese colleges and universities on strength of their overall abilities, teaching resources and education input in various provinces, autonomous regions and cities of the country in 2002.
