A 1,900-square-kilometer geological park, said to be the largest worldwide, is to be developed in southwest China's Sichuan Province, according to the Beijing-based Workers' Daily newspaper.

The park, 55 kilometers from south to north and 35 kilometers from east to west, will be situated at the middle section of the Longmen Mountain in the northern part of the province, about 30 kilometers north of the provincial capital Chengdu.

There are a variety of geological relics in the park, which can be traced back to 100 million years ago and vividly reflect the diversity and evolution of the geological environment.

With easy access to railways and expressways, the park will be open to visitors in 2006, the paper said.
