FM Spokeswoman on Sensitive International Issues
Chinese FM spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue answered journalists' questions on Israeli-Palestine Conflict, the situation in Nepal, China's Arms Control Talks with US and Japan, Post-war Afghan Situation and Pakistani President's Visit to China at Tuesday's regular press conference. China hopes both Israel and Palestine, Israel in particular, would honor the cease-fire agreement and end armed conflicts in the region at an early date, according to Zhang.
She said that China condemned the armed invasion of Israel into the areas under Palestinian control and felt disturbed about the worsening of Israel-Palestine situation.
China hoped both sides, Israel in particular, would earnestly implement the cease-fire agreement and actively collaborate on the international mediating effort so as to end the armed conflicts as soon as possible.
Leadership of King Gyanendra Hopeful
China hopes and believes that Nepal will maintain peace, stability and development under the leadership of King Gyanendra and the Nepalese Government, Zhang said, Nepal is a friendly neighbor of China, and China has closely followed the development of the situation in Nepal.
On Sino-Nepalese relations, China has always adhered to the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs, Zhang said.
China and the United States will hold consultations at the vice-ministerial level on the issues of arms control and non-proliferation in Washington on November 30.
Zhang told the press conference that Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya will head a delegation to attend the talks, she added.
China and Japan held the director-level arms control consultations in Beijing this morning, and the two sides conferred on the international security situation and arms control, nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, prevention of biological and chemical weapons, and issues related to the Conference on Disarmament, she said.
Bonn Meeting Hopeful Impetus to Post-war Afghan Situation
Interim Government Expected
China hopes the UN conference on Afghanistan underway in Bonn, Germany, will lead to the formation of an interim government in the war-torn country.
"China welcomes the meeting and regards it as an important attempt for the realization of national reconciliation in Afghanistan," Zhang told a regular press conference Tuesday in the press conference.
UN's Role Appreciated
The United Nations and international community should lead and encourage political talks among different factions in Afghanistan so that they can reach consensus on installing the transitional government as soon as possible, she said.
Aid and Assistance Offered
China has insisted that affairs of Afghanistan should be solved by the Afghan people themselves. China was ready to offer assistance to Afghan refugees in Iran through working with the Iranian government.
China has offered aid to Afghan refugees many times, including the assistance to the refugees in Pakistan through the Pakistani government and some U.N. agencies, she added.
Pakistani President to Visit China
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will visit China within this year at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Zhang Qiyue confirmed the news Tuesday.
She said that China and Pakistan are still discussing the agenda related to Musharraf's visit through diplomatic channel, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry will make formal announcement at a proper time.
