CCF Receives Largest Donation from Enterprise

China Charity Federation (CCF) November 27 received its largest-ever donation--100 million yuan worth of medical and health care products from the "505 Group" in northwest China's Shaanxi Province to aid 500,000 people who cannot afford medical treatment over the next 10 years.

China Charity Federation (CCF)received its largest-ever donation -- 100 million yuan worth of medical and health care products -- from the "505 Group" in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, Tuesday, to aid 500,000 people who cannot afford medical treatment over the next 10 years.

Yan Mingfu, president of the CCF, attended the donation ceremony, at which the group donated medical supplies valued at two million yuan to more than 16,000 elderly people living in welfare institutions in Beijing.

Wu Jianguo, CCF vice president, said the donation is the largest from a single enterprise to the Chinese charity. The 505 Group is a large medical and health care products supplier in northwest China.

Wu said that the CCF will call on charity administrations at local levels to carry out the charity project in a step-by-step process.

Governmentally approved in 1994, China Charity Federation (CCF) is a nationwide non-governmental charity organization whose purpose is "to uphold the spirit of humanitarianism and the Chinese traditional virtues of helping people in poverty or in trouble, help unfortunate individuals and groups of people and conduct various kinds of social relief work." Located in the capital of Beijing, China Charity Federation is the largest national charitable organization in Mainland China. In 1998, China's Ministry of Civil Affairs devolved the following key tasks to the Charity Federation:

  • Raising funds for charity.
  • Developing public welfare programs for the poor and needy.
  • Assisting the government in emergency relief work including collection and allocation of both domestic and overseas donations.
  • Establishing and supporting social welfare agencies.
