There is no doubt about the perspective in the development of network economy. Following a rigid winter the spring of the new economy taking network-industry as the representative will definitely come, said Lu Yongxiang, president of CAS, at the "2001 CNC World Forum" Monday.

Spring is Coming

Entitled as "Common Prosperity of Wide-Band Industry", the "2001 CNC World Forum" was held by China Netcom Corp to celebrate the second anniversary of the founding of the Corporation.

In an era of global knowledge economy, Lu said, every industry, sci-tech innovation, cultural media, education, finance, insurance, trade, security, etc, needs information communication. Every person, enterprise, product and state security needs communication network. Information and communication have become a global network platform for material civilization, and cultural and ideological progress in the current society.

Further Support and Attentions Expected

Lu said that the new economy represented by network economy has experienced the three stages of sprouting, booming, and depressing in recent years. This could be attributed to many reasons. The recession should not augur the future of network economy and new economy if taking a long-term point of view.

For the new economy, attentions to it prove to be the best motivation. Although the network economy failed to create a myth of new economy as expected and so many venture investors abandoned network companies as their goals, yet the public has never diverted their attention away from the information industry. "Common Prosperity of Wide-Band Industry" should not remain a slogan only and it must be put into practice as much as possible.

Telecom Industry Contributes to China's Economic Development

Information industry has always been a highlight of China's advancing economy, Lu said. As forecasted in the UN report, China will maintain a high-speed economic growth in the year 2001 and 2002 when the world economy is in the recession.

With information communication industry playing the leading role, China's telecom industry will hold steadfast a dominant position in contribution to China's rapid economic development. In the coming five years, the development of telecom industry will further be quickened which will put China among the veritable top ranks of telecom and Internet giants in the 21st Century. All of these provide precious opportunity and broad perspective for the development of China's wide-band telecom industry.

Netcom's Experiences Valuable

Practice of China Netcom in the past two years has proved that China could not only set up world top-ranking telecom network with the most advanced technology in a relatively short period of time, but also provide excellent services by the application of advanced technology and successful commercial operation.

Wang Xuebing, President of Construction Bank of China, Alvin Toffler, world famous futurist and author of "The Third Wave", etc, made speeches at the Monday's opening ceremony and took part in the discussion.

Alvin Toffler and his "The Third Wave"

Alvin Toffler and his wife and collaborator Heidi Toffler have written a baker's dozen of books that have all been best-sellers, starting way, way back in 1970 with Future Shock.

The family tree of thousands of books about the future, and about how to cope with it, all lead to the leafy canopy where he makes his roost.

The central premise of Toffler's talk was that human history, while it is complex and contradictory, can be seen to fit patterns. The pattern he has been seeing in his career takes the shape of three great advances or waves.
