Consultations Underway for Bonn Meeting on Afghanistan: U.N.

Senior U.N. officials were holding intensive consultations in an effort to speed up a process towards the formation of a broad-based and multiethnic government in Afghanistan, according to a U.N. spokesman Monday.

Senior U.N. officials were holding intensive consultations in an effort to speed up a process towards the formation of a broad-based and multiethnic government in Afghanistan, according to a U.N. spokesman Monday.

Lakhdar Brahimi and his deputy Francesc Vendrell, top U.N. envoys for Afghanistan, along with the eight other members of the official U.N. delegation, have already arrived in the town Petersberg, where they have been conducting bilateral meetings with the participants on the format of the talks, the opening ceremony and the agenda, Brahimi's spokesman said in a statement.
