Zambian President Frederick Chiluba said Monday in Lusaka the cooperation that exists between China and Africa is an encouraging aspect and needs to be supported by all stakeholders.
He made the remarks at the State House when he met with a visiting Chinese military delegation led by Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).
Chiluba, also chairman of the Organization of African Unity, said that a meeting on China-Africa cooperation which was held here in July this year was an indicator of the warm relationship between China and the African continent.
The meeting was a follow-up to a forum on China-Africa cooperation held in Beijing in October last year.
Chiluba noted that China had on several occasions come to the aid of Zambia when the country faced problems.
He said Zambia considers its relationship with China as special, adding that Zambia will always be indebted to China for the assistance that China has rendered to it.
Chiluba gave the example of the construction of the Tanzania- Zambia Railways (TAZARA) as one area where Zambia would always be grateful to China for.
He said he is happy that Chinese investors have shown interest in the many sectors of the country.
The two developing countries share a good relationship that needs to be strengthened further for the benefit of their peoples, the president added.
General Fu said the Chinese government attaches great importance to the military delegation's visit to Zambia.
He said this is the first time that a high powered military delegation is visiting the country.
Fu expressed the belief that the delegation's visit to Zambia will surely help strengthen the existing good relationship between the two countries.
The Chinese government will continue its efforts to help Zambia though it is also a developing country.
The Chinese military delegation arrived here Sunday for a four- day official and goodwill visit to the southern African country.
