East China Province Reports 11 Percent Growth in Export

East China's economic powerhouse of Jiangsu Province registered an increase of 11.7 percent in export during the first 10 months of this year, 5.6 percentage points higher than the national average.

East China's economic powerhouse of Jiangsu Province registered an increase of 11.7 percent in export during the first 10 months of this year, 5.6 percentage points higher than the national average.

According to the latest statistics released Friday by local Customs, Jiangsu exported and imported 41.99 billion U.S. dollars worth of products during the 10 month period, up 13.1 percent over the same period of last year.

Total volume of export by the province adjacent to Shanghai reached 23.6 billion U.S. dollars during the period, while 18.38 billion U.S. dollars worth of goods were imported with 5.22 billion U.S. dollars in trade surplus.

Ma Haining, a foreign trade official of the provincial government, said the fast foreign trade growth came after the unusual increase last year, when the province experienced a 40.7 percent growth in foreign trade over 1999.

Overseas-funded enterprises exported 13.4 billion U.S. dollars during the January-October period, more than half of the province' s total.

The volume of export of high-tech products, and machinery and electronics products grew by 32.8 percent to 5.5 billion U.S dollars during the period, or nearly one quarter of the province's total.
