A new digitalization projectwill soon be launched to come up with scientific approaches for the control and development of the Yellow River, China's second-longest waterway.

According to Li Guoying, director of the Yellow River Water Resources Committee, the project is to build an integrative digital platform composed of the natural, economic and social information of the Yellow River areas.

Li said the computerized Yellow River-related data will aid thesimulation, analysis and research of the river's control and development measures, so as to make the decisions more scientific and farsighted.

The digital platform also will form a basic flood prevention system. Computers can predict with great accuracy rainfall amountsand potential flood situations, providing information which can beused to formulate flood prevention programs and carry out general river control measures.

As part of the project, a center will be built to give a more scientific and rational overview of the distribution of the water from the Yellow River.

In addition, other administration work, such as the supervisionon water quality, the control of soil erosion and the implementation of water conservancy projects will be computerized.
