A total of 67 foreigners have been allowed to stay permanently in China since 1989, said the Ministry of Public Security.

The Ministry also announced here Thursday that foreigners with senior management or technological expertise, and foreigners who have invested heavily in China will be allowed to stay in this country permanently and be allowed to enter China without a visa.

This is one of the six major reform measures announced Thursday afternoon at a national meeting on exit-entry administration. The reform measures will greatly simplify procedures in this regard. The measures have also lowered the limitations for foreigners to stay permanently in China.

The 67 foreigners enjoyed such treatment because they have "made marked contribution to China's economy and social progress," said the ministry. Therefore, the "green card" is by no means available to all foreigners who work or live in China, the ministry pointed out.

As a matter of fact, thanks to the prosperous economic growth in China, more and more foreigners are seeking job opportunities in China.

Official statistics from Guangzhou show that since May of 1996, some 10,000 foreigners from over 60 countries have worked in this southern coastal city; in the first half of this year, more than 2,000 foreigners were employed there.
