Third Shanghai Int'l Industry Exposition Opens

The third Shanghai International Industry Exposition opened Friday in this east China metropolis. A total of 1,192 domestic and overseas businesses and colleges of higher learning are attending the exposition, where commodities involving electronics and the networks, electrical equipment, new materials, environmental protection, energy, automobiles and components, home appliances, bio-engineering and medicine are exhibited.

The third Shanghai International Industry Exposition opened Friday in this east China metropolis.

Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo sent a message of congratulations to the opening of the exposition, which focuses on informatization and industrialization.

Xu Kuangdi, mayor of Shanghai, pledged in his opening address that Shanghai would go all out to promote the strategy of prioritizing the development of informatization in cities, and start a new development mode of using informatization to advance industrialization, industrial progress and urban modernization.

A total of 1,192 domestic and overseas businesses and colleges of higher learning are attending the exposition, where commodities involving electronics and the networks, electrical equipment, new materials, environmental protection, energy, automobiles and components, home appliances, bio-engineering and medicine are exhibited.

Some 20 seminars and forums will be organized during the six- day exposition, which is expected to attract 10,000 businessmen from 30 countries and regions. Exposition organizers say that, starting this year, they will also give gold, silver and bronze prizes to outstanding products exhibited at the exposition, which is jointly sponsored by eight organizations including the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of the Information Industry, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Municipal Government.
