PRINT IT DISCUSS IT CHINESE SEND TO FRIENDS

China would like to participate in the rebuilding of Afghanistan when the country regains peace and stability, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said at a regular press conference Thursday.

Discussion on Rebuilding Afghanistan to Be Held

Zhang said that China sent representatives to Tuesday's meeting of officials in Washington to discuss the rebuilding of Afghanistan.

This shows that China, as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council and a neighbor of Afghanistan, wants to see Afghanistan realize peace and stability as soon as possible, and is willing to participate in the rebuilding of Afghanistan after the war, Zhang noted.

Close Beneficial Economic Ties Between Two Countries

In times of peace, she said, China and Afghanistan had close beneficial trade and economic ties. Some projects that China helped to build in Afghanistan won praise from the people of that country.

China has long hoped that Afghanistan will regain peace and stability as soon as possible and devote itself to developing economy, so that the Afghan people can live a safe and happy live.

Normal Contacts Maintains between China & Northern Alliance

When answering questions about the relations between China and the Northern Alliance, Zhang said that the Northern Alliance has an embassy in Beijing. China and the Northern Alliance maintain normal contacts, she said.

China Considers All Proposals Helpful

When answering whether China will send an ambassador to Afghanistan, Zhang said that China will consider this issue after peace is restored in that country.

In the regular press conference on November 16, Zhang noted that China would consider all proposals that are helpful to the peace, stability and neutrality of Afghanistan and are in the interests of the Afghan people

Five principles proposed by the Chinese government in solving the Afghan problem
  • 1, Efforts should be made to safeguard the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Afghanistan.

  • 2, The Afghan people should be able to decide on the solution to their problem independently.

  • 3, The future Afghan government should be broad-based, represent the interests of all ethnic groups in the country and develop good relations with Afghanistan's neighboring countries.

  • 4, Efforts should be made to maintain the peace and stability in the region.

  • 5, The United Nations should play a more constructive role in solving the Afghan problem.
