S.Korea Testfires Missile into Yellow Sea

South Korea testfired a short-range missile into the Yellow Sea at 4 p.m. Thursday, said the South Korean Defense Ministry Thursday night.

South Korea testfired a short-range missile into the Yellow Sea at 4 p.m. Thursday, said the South Korean Defense Ministry Thursday night.

The South Korean Agency for Defense Development testfired a 100-kilometer missile from a test launch pad in the Yellow Sea and hitthe target in the sea which is some 50 kilometers west off ByonsanPeninsula of South Korea's western coast, said the ministry.

Seoul informed Washington of the testfiring in advance in accordance with the South Korean-United States missile test guidelines and the missile was test-fired within the limits of theinternational missile technology control regime (MTCR) of 1987, said the ministry.

South Korea became the 33rd member of the MTCR last March, which restricts development of missiles with a range of 300 kilometers and more and a warhead of 500 kilograms and more.

However, the South Korean Ministry did not elaborate on the warhead and range and other details of the testfired missile.
