Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev said Wednesday in Beijing that he is fully optimistic about the broad prospects for economic and trade cooperation between Moldova and China.

During an interview with Xinhua at the Diaoyutai State Guest House Wednesday evening, Tarlev said during Chinese President Jiang Zemin's state visit to Moldova in July, the heads of state of the two countries set forth the guiding principles for the development of bilateral relations. He said his visit to China is to put into effect the consensus reached by the leaders.

He pointed out that Moldova and China have no differences on political issues. The two countries enjoy good cooperation on the international stage, especially in the United Nations. The two countries have also joined the World Trade Organization this year.

Noting that the two countries have many things in common in the field of economy, he said strengthening exchanges of experiences and bilateral negotiations will be conducive to both sides. His visit to China is also aimed at laying a foundation for expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

He pointed out that he and Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji reached a broad consensus on this issue during their talks. The two sides signed an agreement on cooperation between the ministries of justice of the two countries so as to coordinate their efforts to adapt their legal systems to the market economy.

The two sides also signed a document on cooperation in viticulture and wine production. Tarlev said since Moldova has a relatively advanced agricultural sector, the signing of the

document will usher in a new era of growth of bilateral cooperation in this field.

He noted that his country's trade volume with China has seen a great increase so far this year. However, he said, the great potential in bilateral economic and trade cooperation is yet to be fully tapped.

Moldova's location at the juncture of the East and the West makes it an ideal bridge for Chinese products to enter the European market, he said.

He also pointed out that the two countries have great potential for cooperation in industrial technical projects. As the new government of Moldova is restructuring the country's economy with the aim of rejuvenating it, Chinese enterprises will be rewarded

if they invest in infrastructure development there, he said.

He noted that the two countries also enjoy great potential for cooperation in the fields of public health and aviation.

The prime minister praised China for its correct choice of building a market economy with Chinese characteristics. He said Moldova is ready to expand cooperation with China in all aspects, and join its efforts with those of China to maintain world peace and prosperity.
