HK to Host World Congress of Accountants 2002

The 16th World Congress of Accountants will be held in Hong Kong from November 18 to 21, 2002, the organizer Hong Kong Society of Accountants announced Wednesday.

The 16th World Congress of Accountants will be held in Hong Kong from November 18 to 21, 2002, the organizer Hong Kong Society of Accountants announced Wednesday.

This is the first gathering of World Congress of Accountants inthe 21st century and also a major event after China's entry into the World Trade Organization, the society said.

It announced that the theme of congress 2002 is "Knowledge-based Economy and the Accountant." The theme will be explored and illuminated through an extensive program of plenary sessions, interactive workshops and an eye-catching professional exhibition,it said.

Under the auspices of International Federation of Accountants, which has 153 member body organizations in 113 countries, representing over 2 million accountants worldwide, the congress isheld once every five years. It is a global forum where thousands of industry leaders, policy makers, innovators and delegations can meet and exchange views on areas of international and regional interest.
