The bodies of four international journalists, who were ambushed by unidentified gunmen on the Jalalabad-Kabul highway, have been shifted to Pakistan, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

The bodies were recovered Tuesday near the town of Serobi, 55 kilometers east of Kabul. They were transported Wednesday on a Red Cross convoy to the Pakistani border, it said.

The journalists were Australian television cameraman Harry Burton and Afghan photographer Azizullah Haidari, both of the Reuters news agency; Maria Grazia Cutuli of Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera; and Julio Fuentes of the Spanish daily El Mundo.
