Shi Guangsheng, minister of foreign trade and economic cooperation, met here Tuesday with Minister for Commerce, Industry and Production Abdul Razak Dawood and some entrepreneurs of Pakistan.

Dawood congratulated China on its entry into the World Trade Organization, and said his delegation has conducted very good discussions with the Chinese side during its visit.

He said he hoped that China would increase its import of Pakistan's polyester fibers, grey cloth and leather, and that the two sides would cooperate in silk processing.

Shi noted that Sino-Pakistani relations are good, and that bilateral economic and trade cooperation has developed smoothly.

He noted that the bilateral trade volume in the first nine months of this year reached 990 million US dollars, a rise of 17.8 percent.

He said since the "9.11" incident Chinese leaders have paid great attention to Pakistan's difficulties, and the Chinese government has provided Pakistan with emergency aid worth 10

million yuan (about 1.2 million U.S. dollars).

The goods and materials have already reached Pakistan, and Chinese engineers have started to return to Pakistan after their holidays, added Shi.

To realize the agreements reached during Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji's visit to Pakistan in May this year, both sides have done a lot, and everything is progressing smoothly, noted Shi.

The Chinese side will continue to encourage its enterprises to explore new ways to expand bilateral trade and increase investment in Pakistan.
