The Ministry of Education announced Tuesday that Chinese students will take the annual College Entrance Exam one month earlier than usual from 2003.

The exam will be held from June 7 to June 9 annually. The change has been made in consideration of the health of the students.

The decision has obtained the backing of the related senior andmiddle schools, colleges and universities, as well as provincial governments, education departments and departments for examinationmanagement.

In most parts of China, the weather in July is very hot, and natural disasters are frequent, having an adverse impact on both the students and exam appraisal work.

Schools will have to adjust their schedules to accommodate the change.
