India to Launch INSAT-3C Satellite in January, 2002

India's INSAT-3C communication satellite is scheduled to be launched on January 16,2002 on Arianespace's commercial satellite launch workhorse fourthgeneration Ariane-4 rot.

India's INSAT-3C communication satellite is scheduled to be launched on January 16,2002 on Arianespace's commercial satellite launch workhorse fourthgeneration Ariane-4 rot.

Indian Space Research Organization said Tuesday that INSAT-3C, initially planned to be launched on the fifth generation Ariane-5 rocket, was now being launched on a fourth generation rocket as "waiting for the Ariane-5 rocket would mean an indefinite delay."

The January 16 schedule for INSAT-3C's launch has finally been fixed after a long delay due to a technical snag on flight 142 of Ariane-5 rocket which resulted in a foreign satellite reaching lower than expected orbit.
