A Chinese telecommunications manufacturer Tuesday marketed the world's smallest GSM mobile phones, in cooperation with Agere Systems.

A spokesman for the Beijing Shouxin Co. said Tuesday that two types of the phones -- known as the C6088 and C6288 -- are about 70 percent of a name card in size and 66 grams in weight, or 70 percent lighter than the mainstream mobile phones.

The company plans to introduce the eighth-generation GPRS technology from Agere Systems early next year, so that its GSM mobile phones will be able to download Internet data at a speed ofup to 50 kb per second.

At present, overseas mobile phone manufacturers control 80 percent of the rapidly growing mobile phone market in China, whichboasts more than 100 million users.
