100-Day Campaign Launched Against Fake Products
A nationwide 100-day inspection of product quality begins Tuesday. The State Administration for Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine said that the inspection aims at ensuring a "safe market" for consumers in the coming New Year's Day and the Spring Festival.
China is to launch a nationwide crackdown on counterfeiting that will last 100 days until February next year, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (SAQSIQ) announced Monday.
The administration revealed the three-month campaign will crack down on inferior food products, counterfeit daily commodities, low-quality holiday presents and tourists souvenirs.
Wu Qinghai, vice-director of the administration who is in charge of the inspection, said that termination of the sources of the fake and inferior products was a top priority.
The campaign will focus on shoddy and fake food, as well as cotton products, that pose a serious threat to people's health and lives, said a spokesman for the SAQSIQ.

Also targeted are the production of fake trade marks and packages, as well as the resurgence of illegal refineries, shoddy and fake steel bars, cigarettes and cosmetics.
Safety in connection with boilers, elevators, cranes, large-scale entertainment facilities, fireworks and other inflammable and explosive substances also forms a major part of the campaign.
Handsome rewards are to be paid to those who report those dealing in fake products. Wu Qinghai underlined cross-department co-ordination, and said the inspection also targets exports and imports.
Ensuring the good name of the signature mark "Made in China" is a major concern as the country goes global, said Liu Zhaobin, an administration official.
Fake Commodities Destroyed in Harbin
Since its inauguration in April, the SAQSIQ has maintained high pressure on counterfeiting, exposing 10,344 illegal workshops and confiscating 2.23 billion yuan-worth of shoddy and fake products.
Persistent, Severe Actions
The Party Central Committee and the State Council have always attached great importance to the work of rectifying and standardizing the market economic order, and regarded crackdown on the illegal and criminal activities of manufacturing and selling fake and shoddy commodities as an important part of the effort to rectify and standardize the market economic order.
Practice proves that success in the anti-counterfeit struggle requires persistent united Actions. The anti-counterfeit battle covers a wide area, it is not enough by relying merely on the strength of one department or a level of government.
A powerful, high-handed situation must be formed that involves the united actions taken by all levels from the central to local governments, from industrial and commercial administration, quality supervision, and departments in charge of trades to public security, judicial organ and armed police departments.
The struggle against the manufacturing and selling of fake and shoddy commodities is an arduous and long-term task. So long as we act according to the State Council's strategic plan for the rectification and standardization of the market economic order, unify thinking, enhance understanding, work in a down-to-earth manner and persevere in doing these, we will certainly be able to win victory for this struggle and make new contribution in creating a better environment for economic development.
