A cross-Taiwan Straits agricultural and animal husbandry cooperation fair will be held from November 20 through 22 in Hefei, this capital of east China's Anhui Province.

It is the first such cooperation program to be held following China and its Taiwan Province's entry into the World Trade Organization earlier this month.

The organizing committee expects that 120 or more enterprises, dealers and scientific research institutes from both sides of the Straits will attend the fair.

China's WTO entry is likely to have a somewhat negative impact on the country's agricultural and animal husbandry sector, as the country will face fierce competition from the modern and effectively-run agricultural economies of some foreign countries, local agricultural officials said.

Cross-Straits cooperation in the sector will benefit both sidesand provide business opportunities for the trading and applicationof new and high technologies for agriculture, according to the officials.
