France expressed the wish that the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (U.N.) fully shoulder their responsibility and exert their influence at next Tuesday's meeting in Washington on the reconstruction process of Afghanistan, French Foreign Ministry announced Friday.
"We attach importance to that the EU, the European Commission in particular, in accordance to its capacities of contribution, and the U.N., in accordance to its role of coordination, have their place fully at the meeting," said Bernard Valero, deputy spokesman of the French ministry.
The meeting, co-chaired by the United States and Japan, will bring together leaders of states, governments and international organizations who might play a vital role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, according to spokesman for the U.S. State Department Philip Reeker.
