Defending champion Jilin retained its women's field hockey title successfully at the 9th National Games title, beating host Guangdong 2-0 Thursday in Guangzhou.
A total of eight teams competed first in two groups at the five-day tournament. The top two teams from each group advanced into the second round, in which the qualified four played the round robin matches to determine the rankings.
Kim Chang Back, head coach of China's national women hockey team invited from South Korea, regarded the second round confrontations as high-level. He also revealed that six players from Jilin and five from Guangdong would be recruited in his new national team squad.
Kim said that he was glad to see the field hockey is drawing ever greater attention from sports authorities in various parts of China, while the current Games is boosting the sport's popularity.
With such attention and popularity, said the South Korean coach, "I believe the Chinese women's hockey can make more remarkable breakthroughs in the world."
