(3)The Fourth WTO Conference On Ministerial Level Close
The Chinese government delegation has basically fulfilled its tasks at the fourth ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) held from November 9 to 13 in Doha, said Yi Xiaozhun, director of MOFTEC Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs.

The Main task is to finalize WTO entry
The main task of China's delegation at Doha meeting is to show the world Chinese government's determination on opening up and to make the WTO dream of the whole nation realized. China has traversed a long and arduous road towards its WTO membership and, only China can bear such long-time negotiations, as Nigerian representative puts it. This also proves that we could turn our wishes into reality so long as we have a strong nation at the background.

China's WTO accession is historic trend and common will of the people
The whole world is expecting China to enter WTO. This can be seen from the grand accession ceremony and friendly remarks by foreign representatives. It also shows China's WTO entry is a win-win deal. Of course, we are facing new tasks, for many foreign countries hope China to play a bigger role after WTO. As WTO Director-General Mike Moore said in his round-up speech, China's WTO entry is a historic event that is of tremendous significance to the world as a whole.

China is full of confidence to meet WTO challenges
Under the leadership of CPC central committee and the State Council as well as the efforts of the whole nation, China is confident in meeting WTO challenges with the nation's special flexibility, says Yi. By now no breakthrough has been made on talks of starting a new round of multilateral trade, so it's still too early to make any comments on possible agreements to be achieved.

China has its own stand in WTO
Yi points out that any country, developed or developing has its own stand on concrete issues. China hopes to launch a new round of multilateral trade negotiations, but that must reflect the balance of rights and national interests between developing and developed countries. In many WTO issues lie China's interests, such as environment, market accession, anti-dumping, investment and agriculture. When becoming full member in WTO on December 12, China will declare its stand conforming to national interests and play a constructive role in it.

China hopes to solve trade disputes with Japan through talks
Talking of Sino-Japanese trade disputes, Yi says we hope to solve them through bilateral talks first. If that fails to effect, we can use WTO rules on solving trade disputes, which are open to all members.

Earlier, Chief Negotiator of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) Long Yongtu said in an interview on his arrival in Doha that the there are two major tasks for his delegation, first to finish the formal approval procedure to enable China a full member of the WTO and second to prepare for the launch of a new round of multi-lateral trade talks.
