Taliban Abandons Paktia Province

Afghan Taliban forces on Wednesday abandoned Gardiz, a central city of Paktia province, and a news Shura (council) has been formed to take charge of the province, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

Afghan Taliban forces on Wednesday abandoned Gardiz, a central city of Paktia province, and a news Shura (council) has been formed to take charge of the province, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

The report said the Shura comprises prestigious local residents and former anti-Soviet commanders, who took over the city from the Taliban without a fight.
