Attorneys in Asia, Europe Firmly Determined to Jointly Combat Transnational Crime

Attorneys-general in Asian and European countries Tuesday in Guangzhou expressed their "firm determination" to combat transnational organized crimes by strengthening cooperation for the good of regional peace and stability. Participants exchanged experience and analyzed the characteristics and trends of transnational organized crimes during the two-day meeting themed "International Cooperation in Combating Transnational Organized Crime".

Attorneys-general in Asian and European countries Tuesday in Guangzhou expressed their "firm determination" to combat transnational organized crimes by strengthening cooperation for the good of regional peace and stability, Han Zhubin, procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China, made the remarks when addressing a two-day international meeting of attorneys-general from 38 countries and three international organizations.

Countries in Asia and Europe have the same goals and interests to jointly combat transnational organized crimes, said Han Zhubin to the 240 participants of the Regional Conference of Attorneys-General of Countries in Asia and Europe.

Han said the meeting is "a step forward" for the procuratorates of the countries represented at the conference to jointly combat the crimes.

Close communication and cooperation expected

Han called on the attorneys-general to keep in close communication and cooperate with each other on cases so as to allow prosecutors in each country to be as effective as possible in the fight against transnational organized crimes.

Two-day meeting fruitful

During the two-day meeting, themed "International Cooperation in Combating Transnational Organized Crime", participants exchanged experience in the field, and analyzed the characteristics and trends of transnational organized crimes in the current world situation.

The attendants also held discussions on international cooperation against crime, and reached agreements on combating transnational organized crimes.

The attendants were especially interested in finding ways to combat international terrorism and held in-depth discussions on the subject, Han said. It was widely agreed that terrorism posed a great threat to the world's peace and stability, and was an enemy to all the countries and peoples cherishing peace, he added.

The anti-terrorism campaign will be long and difficult which requires international cooperation within the United Nations framework and in accordance with international conventions, han added.



The Regional Conference of Attorneys-General of Countries in Asia and Europe opened Monday in Guangzhou, with more than 240 delegates from 38 countries and three international organizations attending.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met with the group Sunday and Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, also sent a message of congratulations to the meeting.
