PLA Chief of General Staff Meets Finnish Military Delegation

Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met Tuesday with a Finnish military delegation headed by Olavi Jappila, Chief of operations of the Finnish National Defense Forces.

Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met Tuesday with a Finnish military delegation headed by Olavi Jappila, Chief of operations of the Finnish National Defense Forces.

Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that China and Finland have maintained good cooperative relations in various fields since the two countries established diplomatic ties.

As an important component of the bilateral ties, the military relations between the two countries progressed well too, Fu said, adding that the two sides also conducted effective communication and cooperation in such military areas as the personnel training and logistics.

Fu said the development of the bilateral military ties is beneficial to the both countries, voicing his hope that friendly relations would be further promoted in the new century through the joint efforts of both countries.

Fu also briefed Jappila and his delegation on China's domestic development and army build-up, and explained China's stance on the issues of Taiwan and anti-terrorism.

Jappila said the current trip is his first visit to China, and that the country has impressed him deeply.

Jappila hoped both Finland and China, working together, would further develop the friendly relations between the two countries and the two armed forces.
