Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Tuesday with Aytac Yalman, Turkish commander of the gendarmerie.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said as developing countries, both China and Turkey are of great influence in international and regional affairs.

As complementary partners, China and Turkey have no conflicts concerning fundamental interests, Chi said. The two countries share common or similar views on many important international and regional issues.

On anti-terrorism, Chi pointed out that with opposition to any form of terrorism, the Chinese government holds that the same standards should be applied to any anti-terrorist issue, and that international cooperation should be promoted within the framework of the United Nations Charter.

Chi expressed the belief that visits and exchanges between the Chinese People's Armed Police Force and the Turkish Gendarmerie will promote the construction of their armed forces and the friendly cooperative relations between them.

Yalman expressed his hope that his visit would further the development of the existing cooperative relations between the two countries and the two armed forces.

Turkey shares the same stance and views as China on anti-terrorist issues, Yalman said.
