Forerunner of Democratic Revolution Commemorated
A ceremony was held Monday in Wuhan, where the democratic revolution started 90 years ago, to mark the 135th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.

Born in 1866 in Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City), Guangdong Province, Dr. Sun has been known across the country as a "great revolutionary and a great statesman" who fought against imperialist aggression and for the independence and freedom of China. He died of an illness in Beijing on March 12, 1925.
A commemorating ceremony was held in the memorial hall of Wuchang Uprising, the first gunshot of the revolution overthrew China's last feudal regime Qing Dynasty (1616-1911). The ceremony was attended by local Party and government officials as well as celebrities of non-Communist parties.
The people placed baskets of flowers in front of Dr. Sun's portrait to show respect.
