China's gross domestic product is expected to grow by at least eight percent in 2002, Beijing-based newspaper Economic Information Daily reported Saturday.

Investment in fixed assets is to rise by 15 percent and the consumption of Chinese residents surge by 11 percent. Export is expected to rebound from this year's "relatively low level," with the growth rate estimated at about 20 percent, the paper said, quoting a State Development Planning Commission report.

The report cited improved investment and trade environment after China enters the World Trade Organization, the rise in the salaries of public servants and the operation of key infrastructure projects in 2002 as major factors for faster economic growth.
