Microsoft China unveiled its simplified Chinese version of Windows XP, the highly anticipated version of the Windows operating system, for the Chinese mainland market in Beijing this week.

The Chinese version boasts enhanced Internet and digital media capabilities, and the improvements that increase efficiency and provide both business and home users with an easy-to-use experience have been made, Microsoft China President Jack Gao said.

By linking personal computers, devices and services together on the Windows 2000 platform, the system enables users to acquire, organize and share their digital photos, store and play back high-quality digital music, and enjoy instant messaging with voice and video capabilities.

Microsoft will work closely with major PC manufacturers in China to ensure their most advanced hardware solutions fully complement the new operating system, he said.

To meet the needs of secure data transfer of key industries, state-owned China National Computer Software and Technology Service Corporation will develop an encryption module on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
