Although no anthrax has been found in California, but state postal officials are not taking any chances. Los Angeles health officials plan to test all the mail processing centers as part of the nationwide precautionary investigation.
A similar test was already conducted on Wednesday at the Anaheim Processing and Distribution Facility in eastern suburb of the city.
The test samples will be analyzed at the Centers for Disease Control laboratory, and the results should be available in about 10 days.
Within the next two weeks, mail-processing centers in Santa Clarita and South Los Angeles will also be checked for the bacteria.
Since September, there have been four people reportedly killed by the deadly bacteria and a dozen others contaminated through contacting the infected mail. The U.S. government has ordered the test of 260 postal facilities nationwide.
In the latest developments, officials found anthrax at four more New Jersey post offices linked to the facility that processed contaminated letters sent to Washington and New York. Meanwhile, New York health officials have begun the test of its subway system for anthrax.
