The visiting president of Electricite de France (EDF) said the EDF group hopes to play an active role in preparing Beijing to host a successful Olympic Games in 2008.

Francois Roussely said the group will strengthen its cooperation with the Chinese capital in many fields such as energy and environmental infrastructure and will help build the city into an ecologically-sound international metropolis.

Roussely made the remark when Mayor of Beijing Liu Qi met with him Friday.

The mayor said Beijing welcomes more participation by French enterprises in the city's environmental improvement efforts in the form of solely-funded bodies or joint ventures.

Beijing appreciated exchanges and cooperation with EDF in environmental protection and the development of clean energy and expected to use EDF advice in improving the city's ecological environment and arrangements for the 2008 Olympics, Liu noted.

Roussely is a member of the visiting French delegation led by Laurent Fabius, French minister of economy, finance and industry, who has come to China for a four-day visit at the invitation of Xiang Huaicheng, Chinese minister of finance.
