Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Thursday afternoon with the head of the US Coca Cola Corporation, one of the first companies to enter China after it opened to the outside world.

Jiang told Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO Douglas Daft that China's reform and opening up not only invigorated the country's economic growth but also provided a vast market for overseas investors.

He reaffirmed China's adherence to the opening-up policy and welcomed more foreign investors to participate in China's economic construction.

Jiang said that China and the United States shared a wide range of important common interests. China is willing to make concerted efforts with the US side for the advance of Sino-US cooperative ties as they would be good for the peoples of both countries and contribute to world peace, he said.

Daft said that Coca-Cola's business in China grew amid China's rapid economic development. He expressed the hope that cooperation with various Chinese departments be strengthened and US-China economic and trade relations be expanded.
