Located to the south of Tengchong County, Yunnan Province, the Hot Sea Scenic Area is famous for its myriad hot springs, among which the "boiling pot" is the most notable. Tengchong County in southwest China's Yunnan Province is a hidden gem among the province's growing list of tourism destinations.
What distinguishes Tengchong from the rest is its rich and diversified geographical landscape. It is one of China's three major geothermal areas. It boasts numerous hot springs with temperatures of 90 degree Celsius, which can even steam food.
The Hot Sea Scenic Area has warm climate and clean and fresh air. Especially, its mineral springs are clean and crystal clear. The water of the springs contains many kinds of trace elements that are good for human body and have special effects for curing many recurring illnesses such as the rheumatism, hyperosteogeny, sequelae of apoplexy and skin diseases.
The special landform of the Hot Sea Scenic Area leads to scattered attractions. The most enjoyable spots include Drum Sound Spring, Pearl Spring, Glasses Spring, Immortal’s Bathing Pool, Heat Radiating Land, Frog Mouth, Zaotang River Waterfall and Bird Intoxicating Well. All of these attractions are vivid and majestic. Especially, the magnificence of them could rarely be seen in other places.
The Hot Sea Scenic Area has become an ideal resort for sightseeing, holiday spending, recuperation and scientific investigation.
Here, a special bathing ritual is strictly adhered to.
A steam bath comes first. The steam holes on the bed are laid with sand and cobblestones before they are covered by a thick layer of fresh pine leaves and herbs. Finally, a grass mat is laid on top. The visitor lies down with a blanket.
As the steam gathers heat, perspiration begins to flow anda little rubbing down will help cleanse the pores.
A soak in the spring water refreshes and soothes away the stress.
