The Yunnan-Vietnam Railway is China’s first railway to a foreign country. It was opened to traffic on April 1, 1910. It is 854 kilometers long and 1 meter wide, and therefore it is also called the One-Meter-Wide Railway.

The section in Yunnan spans across three river systems, three climatic zones. This project and the Panama Canal and Suez Canal are called the Three Great Projects of the World.
