“Mom, you must get stronger.” A 7-year-old boy’s dying wish is to donate his kidney to save his seriously ill mother. On April 2, the boy died of brain tumor; he saved his mother and two other young people.
Boy’s final wish: I want to save my mother
Chen Lu was diagnosed with renal failure in November 2011. Unfortunately, half a year later, her son Chen Xiaotian, 5, was diagnosed with malignant brain tumor.
At the beginning of this year, Chen Xiaotian’s condition got worse and he couldn’t take surgery anymore. At the same time, her mother needed kidneys to survive.
Xiaotian’s grandmother had proposed to use one kidney of the boy to save his mother, and Chen Lu strongly opposed the idea at first. But Xiaotian insisted on saving her life. “I want to save mum! I want to protect mum,” the boy said. ”If I died sooner, I can save my mother earlier and save money for my family.”
Mother: I will live on with my son’s kidney
“Performing the transplant surgery means to tell her ‘your son is dead’ ”, said Chen Gang, a doctor with the hospital.
Chen Xiaotian died quietly on April 2. A few hours later, her mother was sent to the surgery room to receive the kidney transplant surgery.
No words, just tears, Chen Lu received the transplant surgery successfully at Hongji Hospital, in Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei province. “I will take care of my body and live on with my son’s kidney”, she said after surgery.
Gift of life
The boy donated his organs to save two other people. A 21-year-old woman received Xiaotian’s right kidney, and a 27-year-old man received the boy’s liver. Both organ transplants took place on the same day when the boy died.
