According to satellite experts, the satellites used in the search mission are capable of four tasks: scan and analyse images, monitor weather situation, seek evidence of terrorist attack, and collect wireless signals.

The most important and first task for a satellite is to use its radar and optical camera to capture images, and then through scan and analysis of captured images to tag anything that could be wreckage from the missing plane.

The second task is to examine all kinds of weather conditions; China's weather satellite is used to ensure rescue work can be carried out in optimal conditions, it will contribute to find missing plane.

Third, the satellite is able to find evidence if there was a terrorist attack or an explosion.

The last task is electronic reconnaissance to collectelectronic signals, so if the black box of the disappeared plane has fallen into the sea, the electronic reconnaissance satellite can locate its position; the satellite also offers communication and GPS navigation service for rescue work.
