Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and other senior leaders on Sunday joined lawmakers at the ongoing annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), in discussion of topics ranging from regional development to work style.

In a panel discussion with NPC deputies from Jiangxi Province, Li asked the eastern province to play a key role in building new economic belts and to blaze a new trail in economic upgrading.

He required that local authorities should promote green development and boost industries toward a level of higher quality and with greater efficiency.

Li also called for new developments in improving people's well-being and urged more support to old revolutionary base areas.

Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, joined a panel discussion with lawmakers from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Zhang stressed the role of the rule of law in promoting the modernization of state governance, and pledged to improve the quality of legislation in the work of people's congresses.

In a discussion with lawmakers from Chongqing Municipality, Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, stressed the need to further improve the Party's work style.

Improving work style should be centered around tasks of reform and development, Liu said, calling for Party members and cadres to have a greater sense of duty in deepening reform and overcoming difficulties.

Wang Qishan, another member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, called for establishing an effective anti-corruption mechanism when taking part in discussion with lawmakers from Shaanxi Province.

In a panel discussion with lawmakers from Hainan Province, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli called for improving the development of the modern service industry, especially the tourism industry, and building the province into an international tourist destination.

He also urged local authorities to develop the marine economy, protect the marine ecological environment and resolutely safeguard maritime rights and interests.
