At the meeting Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli noted Xinjiang's geographical advantages, resources and favorable policies, and urged Xinjiang's development.
According to Zhang, Xinjiang should become an energy and resource base for the whole country as well as a "bridgehead" towards the west.
Zhang called for construction of modern industries with local features and the strengthening of environmental protection, stressing the role of business in Xinjiang's growth, calling for private companies to invest and set up business in the region.
