SYDNEY, Nov.4 – In response to the rise of violent extremism, students and staff in Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) schools will get more counseling and support services in countering violent extremism (CVE).
Mike Baird, the NSW Premier, announced that an AU$47 million package will help teachers and staff get access to extra support and training from the start of the 2016 school year, aimed at stopping young people becoming radicalized. Expert teams, high-profile sports stars and around 200 extra counselors will be recruited, which will cost around AU $15 million as part of the AU $47 million suite of measures.
"We are locked in a global struggle with cynical manipulators who exploit vulnerable young people and children to commit acts of terror,” Mr Baird said.
He also mentioned the measures weren't meant to target young people but protect them.
The package will also include a support and advice telephone line, along with online services, for community and family members seeking advice on how to best protect and support young people who may be exposed to violent extremist influences.
