The national network of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) has been built in China. More than 21 million automobiles with ETC systems can travel all over the country with the electronic labels on their windshields.
Yang Chuantang, the Chinese Minister of Transport, says that the national network is conductive to easing expressway traffic conditions during the upcoming National Day holiday.
China has so far built over 12,000 gates for automobiles with ETC systems and over 50,000 for those with Manual Toll Collection (MTC) systems.
Yang also states that China's expressway network has entered a critical stage. China will have built network operation and management mechanisms by the end of 2015, as well as a comparatively comprehensive ETC infrastructure network.
